Catherine Ezell
Catherine studied figure and portrait drawing and painting with master artists from The Art Students League of New York, The Boston Fenway Studios and the R.H. Ives Gammell School. Direct painting and drawing from life, and use of value and color are her technical strengths.
The Copley Society, The Guild of Boston Artists, The Cambridge Art Association, and The Concord Art Association have represented her work in their juried shows and portrait registries. She teaches private art lessons in her studio and classes and workshops at local art centers. Her current course offerings at The Cambridge Center for Adult Education are in portrait and life drawing. Specializing in a representational painterly tradition, her work includes portraits from life, plein air landscapes and still life paintings. She accepts commissions from photographs as well, especially children and dogs.
Her education includes an MA in American Literature and a BA in English Literature.

Starting with charcoal drawing on White Charcoal Paper, we will move into using tri-color conte crayon on Tinted Charcoal Paper, and finally, those who wish may work with soft pastels in the full range of color. Materials will be discussed at the first meeting, and we will draw from life models to create representational head-and-shoulder portraits. Two methods of drawing for painting will be explained: mass/pattern drawing and angle/line drawing. Please bring Medium Willow charcoal and large white charcoal paper to the first meeting. Previous drawing experience is recommended. Limited to 14.
