RAISE THE ROOF: May 5 - 28, 2012.
This spring CCAE proudly presents RAISE THE ROOF, a show of work by students and teachers, past and present — which is open to the public at 92 Mount Auburn Street from 12:00 noon - 9:00 pm daily.
Please join us at a special reception for twentysomethings on Thursday, May 17 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at 92 Mount Auburn Street. Art Bash! is a gathering of 21-34 years olds to meet each other and the CCAE while enjoying RAISE THE ROOF's art work and free refreshments.
It is also a kick-off for CCAE's Summer 20.12, a series of events for twentysomethings in Harvard Square this summer.
If you are 21-34 years old, we hope we will see you there.
RAISE THE ROOF first transpired in the spring of 2010, when a group of students and teacher Barbara Baum dreamed up the idea of an art show to help raise money to fix two leaky roofs over CCAE’s art and dance studios.
This year RAISE THE ROOF has grown to become one of the largest art exhibits CCAE has ever done, with nearly 300 works of art by 85 artists.
Click here for a sneak peek at some of the art works which are on display.
RAISE THE ROOF includes oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolor paintings, solar etchings, prints, ceramics and blown glass objects.
This year it was curated by Julia Csekö, an artist and independent curator who has worked with both emerging and established professionals through a series of exhibitions at GroupPy. She is also a third-year graduate student at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
"Harvard University has donated the use of a great exhibit space at 92 Mount Auburn Street," says Csekö, "which has track lighting, huge windows, and tremendous visibility. The exhibit will be staffed from 12 noon to 9:00 pm daily, but because of the fantastic location, most of the show will be on view 24 hours a day."
All work on display is for sale — most of it in the very affordable $100 - 300 range — with the proceeds being split 50/50 between the artist and CCAE, which will use its share to fund improvements to its class rooms.
RAISE THE ROOF is part of CCAE's ongoing revitalization of their Brattle Street campus.
"We have been raising money to address historic preservation, energy efficiency, and classroom upgrades in our beloved buildings," says Hartnett, "so that the Cambridge Center can flourish in the 21st century."
"We hope everyone who visits Harvard Square during the month of May will drop by RAISE THE ROOF. Even if they are not able to buy a work of art," adds Hartnett, "they will be inspired by the range and quality of work on display."
