Paul Karpuk

Paul A. Karpuk is an Emeritus Professor in the Dept. of English at Central Connecticut State University. He received a B.A. with a double major in Russian and History, and a Translator’s Certificate from the Dept. of Russian, at Stanford University (1976), and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Slavic Languages & Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley (1987). He taught Russian at the University of the Pacific and in the Department of Modern Languages at CCSU before transferring to the CCSU Department of English, where he taught survey courses on American and world literature, Russian literature courses including single-author courses on Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, and courses on Poe and Hawthorne. Dr. Karpuk’s primary research interest is the Ukrainian tales of Nikolai Gogol, about which he has published many articles. He has conducted extensive field studies of Russian architecture during perhaps a dozen trips to the former Soviet Union.
