The New Yorker Cartoon

Have you ever submitted to the New Yorker caption contest? Do you think your ideas are the cleverest or are you always drawing a blank? This class will look at all manner of New Yorker cartoons and analyze what makes them special (or not). We will then try our hand at drawing and writing our own single panel cartoons. Throughout the class, we will explore various brainstorming techniques, we'll read advice from published NYer cartoonists on how to generate jokes, and we'll discuss how professional cartoonists stay creative on a deadline. Drawing experience is not required! Instructor: Tim McCool
