Creative Photo Portraiture

Explore styles from environmental, cinematic, arty (think flashlights or slide projectors) to straightforward head shots, using available light and/or studio light - the class is about using light for better portraits. Students will take turns modeling for each other in the 2nd class, then work with models in subsequent classes. Bring sample portraits you admire (from any source) to the first class, and bring your camera to every class. Become a stronger image maker through constructive criticism in class. This is a studio class - all work is created within the class. My style of teaching involves students in lighting and set decision-making so one can leave this class with much more know-how. Returning students are welcome, and can use the class to build their portfolios because we shoot a variety of models other than students, from classes 3 - 8. Basic photography experience required. Allison Evans is a freelance photographer and artist residing in Cambridge, MA. She finds photography to be a combination of magic, art and science. Allison has been fascinated with photography's art and mechanics since she picked up her mother's camera as a child and took her first photographs. The world of imagery is a language in itself. Allison is interested in speaking that language ever more fluently, and finding ways that express it well. She is also interested in how other artistic mediums, and science and business mediums, too, achieve fluent communication.
