ESL: Survival in a New Culture: Small Talk, Conversation, Vocabulary

In this intermediate level class, we will practice informal conversation and “small talk,” and learn new vocabulary, slang, and idioms. Students will read and discuss current events and news stories, role play everyday conversations, and present short discussions and speeches. Andrea Aptecker

Andrea Aptecker has been teaching English to international students and visitors in Cambridge, MA for over 10 years, and loves the vibrant mix of cultures and ideas people from all over the world bring to her classes. Andrea is also a playwright, and serves on the board of the Playwrights’ Platform. Her recent plays include The Revenge Bureau: 2018 Fem Noire Festival/Image Theater, a “Mrs. Minsees/Nemesis” monologue: New World Theatre’s 2018 Solitary Voice production and anthology publication, Unrequited: The North Shore Readers Theater, You’re Killing Me Already!: The Playwrights’ Platform 45th Festival of New Plays and anthology 2017, KKK Cookies: Cambridge Center for Adult Education Evening of New Plays 2017, and Goodnight Spouse: CCAE Second Annual Festival of New Plays 2018. Recent acting roles include Lady Nijo/Top Girls, Dame Northumberland/Henry the 4th, Calonice/Lysistrata, and Suzanne/Countess/Admirer/Picasso at the Lapin Agile.
