Walking Tour of Mount Auburn Cemetery

Founded in 1831, Mount Auburn is often cited as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in New England and the world, with aesthetic richness, educational value, and historical significance. It was the first of the 19th-century “rural cemetery” movement that combined cemeteries with park-style landscaping. The beautiful variety of landscapes, plants, trees, ponds, and trails create an atmosphere of serenity with a diverse collection of monuments and funerary art (over 30,000 between more than 5,000 trees). Meeting point: Main entrance on the Cambridge/Watertown line at 580 Mount Auburn Street. Instructor: James Headley
