25 British Artists You Should Know *NEW*

Join us for an in-depth exploration of 25 British artists you should know, from William Hogarth in the eighteenth century through David Hockney in the twentieth century. Additional artists included are Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough, J.M.W. Turner, John Constable, Dante Rossetti, Henry Moore, Lucian Freud, and many other important British artists. We will also discuss major art movements and the artists’ relationship with the historical and social backgrounds of their time. At each session, we will view works by three or four artists and learn interesting facts about their lives, the characteristics of their art, and their contributions to art history. Ph.D., English, University of Rhode Island

Susan Glassman received a master's degree from N.Y.U. and a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island, both in English. She taught English at the University of Massachusetts and was also the director of a peer tutoring program there. She also studied art history independently and was a docent at the Harvard University Art Museums for seventeen years, frequently guiding and teaching visitors of all ages.
