Wood Carving with Small Tools *In-Person*

Wood carving is a relaxing, meditative endeavor. Once you gain a bit of facility with the tools and an understanding of how wood is likely to respond, your carving space will become a place refuge and escape. Our approach will be relaxed, the mood quiet and encouraging. Through a series of demonstrations and discussion, you will be introduced to a variety of wood carving techniques and styles, all of which can be carved with a modest set of small wood carving tools. Each class will include a demonstration, time for beginning the work, and for asking questions. Between classes you will have an opportunity to finish the project and hone your skills. We will share our work and the instructor will answer questions before moving on to the next carving project. If you have any questions, email the instructor at danparet@gmail.com. Instructor

Dan Paret

Dan has been working wood for nearly thirty years, professionally as a home renovation contractor, avocationally as a maker of cabinets and boxes, and finally as a professional woodworker making both custom and speculative cabinets and boxes. Since 2002, he has been doing all of his woodworking with hand tools. In his classes he attempts to create an environment that is both challenging and supportive, with equal measures of seriousness and levity.
