25 Dutch and Flemish Artists You Should Know *Online*

Join us for an in-depth exploration of 25 Dutch and Flemish artists you should know, from Jan van Eyck in the fifteenth century through René Magritte in the twentieth century. Additional artists included in the course are Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rubens, van Gogh, Mondrian, and many other important Dutch and Flemish painters. We will also discuss major movements of art and the artists’ relationships with the historical and social background of their time. At each session, we will view works by three or four artists and learn interesting facts about their lives, the characteristics of their art, and their contributions to art history. Susan Glassman

Ph.D., English, University of Rhode Island

Susan Glassman received a master's degree from N.Y.U. and a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island, both in English. She taught English at the University of Massachusetts and was also the director of a peer tutoring program there. She also studied art history independently and was a docent at the Harvard University Art Museums for seventeen years, frequently guiding and teaching visitors of all ages.
