American Sign Language: Beginner Level 1

Learn the basics of sign language as a first step to developing receptive and expressive skills. You will learn commonly used signs, the basic grammatical rules of American Sign Language, and information about the deaf. This class requires the additional purchase of a textbook. Colleen McGilpin

Colleen is very excited to be your ASL instructor for the upcoming classes. She was born deaf and has used ASL since birth. She is a graduate student at Boston University studying Language and Literacy Education with the specialization in American Sign Language. She is also a graduate from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. Colleen teaches ASL courses at Lasell University, two local community colleges, and CCAE. She loves teaching ASL as it is very enjoyable for her.
