Barbara A. Thomas

Barbara A. Thomas is the owner of Artifact Soapworks, LLC. True to the company’s name, Artifact Soapworks, Barbara's soaps depict "artifact” shapes such as the Venus of Wildendorf and the ancient Egyptian goddess, Hathor. She regularly designs her own soap molds. Barbara holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT.

When Barbara told friends she was making soap, they arched their eyebrows and asked her if she realized that soap could be purchased at the supermarket. But as a Chemical Engineer, what would they have her do as a hobby, refine used motor oil?

Barbara has enthusiastically taught her craft throughout Massachusetts for 20+ years. She designs and tests all recipes using the scientific methods she learned at MIT. There is no animal testing. She enjoys exploring a variety of soap-making techniques for the home soap maker. Her soaps are vegetarian or vegan-based.
