Program Director, Visual Arts & Crafts

Cambridge Center for Adult Education (CCAE) is a nonprofit organization with an annual operating budget of $2.5 million and a staff of 15 full-time staff. We run nearly 2,000 classes over four terms, taught by over 300 professionals who are experts in their chosen fields. Position Summary

Cambridge Center for Adult Education (CCAE) is seeking an experienced Program Director for Visual Arts & Crafts. CCAE’s visual arts program offers between 40 - 80 classes each term, with over 40 instructors serving close to 1,000 students each year. The program offers classes in a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, mixed media and digital, woodworking, jewelry, glass, and fiber arts, as well as a small but growing art history program. The program director is responsible for building and maintaining comprehensive visual arts offerings for adult learners of different backgrounds and experience levels. This person will also be responsible for two smaller departments: History & Contemporary Issues and Lifestyle & Recreation.

Job Functions

● Strategically plan online and in-person classes, from class development, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation.
○ Work collaboratively with instructors to develop class descriptions, supply lists, and schedules.
○ Schedule classes across various studio spaces and oversee studio supplies.
○ Determine tuition and class budgets, and make strategic decisions about confirming and cancelling classes.
○ Enter and maintain class data in the registration database.
○ Identify areas for improvement, expansion, or reduction.
● Hire and schedule life models for figure and portrait drawing and painting classes.
● Develop and coordinate quarterly art exhibit events, from planning, curating, and installation, to managing opening reception logistics such as ordering catering and event setup.
● Collaborate with the Student Services Coordinator to resolve student questions and concerns related to visual arts classes.
● Coordinate with the Marketing Director on visual arts marketing strategies.
● Work with the finance office to ensure accurate hiring, onboarding, and payment of employed faculty, models, and external partners.

Qualifications & Skills

● Minimum of 2 years of related experience and a background in studio art or art administration required.
● Experience developing events and programming.
● Strong understanding of art education; teaching experience is a plus.
● High level of organization and strategic thinking skills.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Motivated, curious, and able to work without a lot of supervision.
● Strong technical capability with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Zoom.

Compensation:

The salary range is $52,000-57,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental, retirement plan, paid sick, vacation, and personal time, and free classes.
