Acrylic Paints

• Ultramarine Blue
• Phthalo Blue (Green Shade)
• Cerulean Blue
• Cadmium Yellow Light

• Titanium White (buy a large tube)
• Mars or Ivory Black

Optional:

You may also want to buy tubes of purple, orange and green. We will be learning how to mix these colors ourselves. Some Suggestions include:

Paper

At some point we will be making a collage during class. It will be useful to have a variety of papers handy. Some suggestions include:

• Mixed Media paper (for the body of the collage)
• Newspaper
• Patterned/Colorful paper
• Photographs
• Scrap paper/ Old drawings & notes
• Magazines

Sketchbook

• I find it helpful to have a sketchbook handy (any size) to write down ideas, artist
  suggestions, notes from demonstrations, or painting plans.
• Strathmore Mixed Media Pad is good for wet and dry media

Canvas panels or Canvas pad

These will be the painting surfaces for us for the early part of the class. For panels, you can usually find them for an inexpensive price and in sets of three or five. They should be around 11" x 14" or 12" x 16". If you want to buy a canvas pad, such as these: https://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-studio-canvas-pads/ then you only need to buy one, since they come in pads of 10 sheets. Same size recommendations.

Brushes:

• Foam Brushes (for applying grounds)
• Variety of Acrylic Brushes for Washes, detail work, different mark-making

Bring a wide variety of paintbrush sizes. You can also get a mixed paintbrush set that contains round and flat tips: http://www.dickblick.com/products/loew-cornell-12-piece-brush-sets/.

Palette:

Bring a palette to work on. It should be large enough to comfortably work on, around 12" x 16" or 16" x 20". You can purchase the disposable palette sheets that they sell in pad form: http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-studio-disposable-palette-pads/. However, I prefer a reusable palette made out of plastic such as one like this:https://www.dickblick.com/prod.... Make sure to buy a flat palette. Don't get one with wells, these are more for watercolor painting.

Palette Knife:

Choose a variety of shapes and sizes, both plastic and metal. We will be using these to mix paints, spread paint on canvas, or clean your palette.

Canvases & Panels

Later in the class we will paint on canvases and/or wooden panels. Purchase two or three primed canvases of your choice. I recommend "Studio Traditional" 3/4" profile canvases to start out with. Make sure they are stapled on the back instead of on the side. Size is your choice, but I recommend purchasing larger than 9" x 12". If you are used to painting on canvas, I recommend purchasing at least one panel to try out on a different surface feel, and vice vesa.

Other Supplies

• Towel, rags, etc.
• Bring something to clean your brushes with when they get dirty!
• Water cups
• Bring some plastic cups to hold water for washing brushes or holding lots of paint.
• Tape (ex: Blick Artists Tape or Painter's Tape_
• Elmer's paper glue (Strong Formula recommended)
• Scissors/ X-acto knife

Mediums

We will be practicing with certain acrylic mediums during the course. Acrylic Mediums alter the look and feel of the paints. These three are the most necessary to have:

• Liquitex Matte Medium
• Modeling Paste, sometimes called Molding Paste
• Semi-Gloss Regular Gel
