Katia Kapovich

Writer, Editor, and Professor of Slavic Studies

Katia Kapovich is a bilingual poet and the author of six collections of Russian verse and of two of English. Gogol in Rome (Salt, 2004, shortlisted for England's 2005 Jerwood Alderburgh Prize), and Cossacks and Bandits (Salt, 2008). Kapovich's English poems have also appeared in The London Review of Books, The New Republic, Harvard Review, The Independent, Jacket, and numerous other periodicals, in several anthologies including Best American Poetry 2007, Poetry 180, etc. Her poetry was translated into Italian, German, Bengali, Vietnamese, Hebrew and Farsi. A recipient of the 2001 Witter Bynner Fellowship from the US Library of Congress, a participant of the International Poetry Festival in London in 2008, Kapovich lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2001 she and her husband, the poet Philip Nikolayev, together launched a global serial anthology titled Fulcrum: an annual of poetry and aesthetics, which they continue to co-edit.
