Flavors of the Aztec Empire *In-Person* *NEW*
Modern food culture owes a tremendous debt to the Mexica (better known today as the Aztecs). Before their empire was conquered by Spain in the 16th century, the Aztecs were the first to grow crops that have spread to the tables of the world. Their recipes form the backbone of today's Mexican cuisine. But just how different were the original Aztec dishes from the versions we know and love today? Students will learn about the precolonial Mesoamerican diet and the cultural beliefs that shaped it as they prepare a meal based on historical and archaeological sources. This will include bean tamales, salsa, and a sweet, all made using only pre-Columbian ingredients. We'll also enjoy a warm beverage and a snack. Instructor: Andrew Coletti
