25 American Artists You Should Know *Online* *NEW*
Join us for an in-depth exploration of 25 American artists you should know, from John Singleton Copley and Gilbert Stuart in the seventeenth century through Morris Louis and Robert Motherwell in the twentieth century. Additional artists included are Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, John Singer Sargent, Robert Henri, Marsden Hartley and many other important American artists. We will also discuss major movements of art and how European influences were reinterpreted in the United States. At each session, we will view works by four artists and learn interesting facts about their lives, the characteristics of their art, and their contributions to art history. Instructor: Susan Glassman

Ph.D., English, University of Rhode Island
Susan Glassman received a master's degree from N.Y.U. and a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island, both in English. She taught English at the University of Massachusetts and was also the director of a peer tutoring program there. She also studied art history independently and was a docent at the Harvard University Art Museums for seventeen years, frequently guiding and teaching visitors of all ages.
