The New World Monarchies *Online* *NEW*

We tend to think of the Americans as being a land of republics. Yet it was colonized by monarchies in the 15th-18th centuries, spawned at least three “native” monarchies, and still has a monarch ruling one of its sovereign countries today. We’ll look at the three “native” monarchies of Haiti, Mexico, and Brazil, examine why monarchies were established in these countries, and why they ultimately failed. Instructor: Brian Bixby
