*If there is a preference for a certain brand, brush, or other accessory, please use that instead. Don’t buy new items unless needed.

*Use your own preferred way of buying—ex. purchasing sets of brushes/paint or the like for experimentation or cost saving.

● Titanium White

● Cyan or Cobalt Blue

● Quinacridone Magenta (Optional)

● Alizarin Crimson

● Ivory Black (37ml-Optional/Discouraged at this Time)

PAINTS

● Oil Student Grade Brands: Gamblin 1980, Graumbaucher, Utrecht, Winsor & Newton Winton, Blick

● Acrylic Student Grade Brands: Liquitex Basics, Winsor & Newton Galeria, and Blickrylic

BRUSHES & ACCESSORIES

● Gesso and a medium to large gesso brush (1.5”+) are needed if surfaces are unprimed.

● Assortment of Oil Brushes (Synthetic):

  • Filbert Oil Paint Brushes: 2 - 6
  • Round Oil Paint Brushes: 2 - 8
  • Bright Oil Paint Brushes: 4 - 8


● Palettes

  • Disposable Palette Paper
  • (ACRYLIC/GOUACHE ONLY) “Wet Disposable Palette Paper”
  • (OIL ONLY, optional) Glass Palette (avoid transparent glass, white/gray palettes can be helpful) and a Hand-Held Razor Blade (for glass palettes only)

● Palette Knife/Knives for mixing and scraping

● (OIL ONLY) Galkyd Medium - Used to speed drying time

● (OIL ONLY) Gamsol - Used for brush cleaner and thinner

● Glass Jars w/ Lids - Used for brush cleaner/mediums (Feel free to use recycled jars)

● Rags: Cloth and/or Shop Paper Towels (Recycled old shirts etc... work well)

● Soap and/or Brush Cleaner

● Disposable Nitrile Gloves (Optional) If purchased, be sure they are nitrile gloves, not latex—nitrile is resistant to chemicals. Basic Drawing Materials

● Paper/Newsprint/Sketchbook for Sketching

● Soft-Medium Vine Charcoal

● Assorted Pencils

● Eraser

● Oil or Acrylic Paper/Pad — corresponding to whatever paint you are using.
