Acrylic painting supply list

Paints come in two kinds: Artist colors for brilliance of color, or Student grade. Buy according to your budget.

Paint Brushes for acrylic paint come in a variety of shapes and sizes. For now Purchase what is called round brushes One each of #2, #8 and #12, plus a 1” flat for large spaces. All brush handles should be long, all short handle brushes are used mostly for watercolor.

Palette Knife, for mixing paint

Also a Palette for where you mix your colors. Purchasing disposable sheets are the easiest for clean up.

Cup, for water to clean your brushes. A good size works best.

Paper Towels

Canvas, pre-gessoed, 9” x 12” or 10” x 14”. You may purchase these in pads of 12 sheets. Make sure it says real canvas on the cover. You can also buy a pre-stretched canvas as well

Watercolor Brushes, You will need at least one of each a round #2, #8 and #12. also add a flat 1” brush for large areas. The best brushes are sable hair but are very expensive. You can also buy synthetic hair brushes that will work just fine. Watercolor brushes come in short handles.

Watercolor Paper, Best weight or thickness comes in 140lbs, Best texture is cold press. Best rag content is 100%, but you can also use student grade which has less cotton. You can buy paper in blocks or on a spiral ring.

Palette, Buy one that you can close and has enough paint wells for all your colors.
