England, the World Cup, and the National Decline, 1962-1977 *In-Person* *NEW*

In 1966, England was in the midst of a cultural explosion of rock and roll, Mod fashion, and innovative film and theater. When England's national team won the football World Cup in that same year, it seemed to cap the nation's self-confidence. Over the course of the following decade, however, the national team failed to retain the cup and lost its preeminence to more daring and innovative teams from other nations. This course traces the decline of English football against the cultural and political background of Britain's parallel economic and political decline from the Mod years of the 60s to the eve of Thatcherism in the 70s.
