German Advanced: Theater spielen: Learning German through Theater *In-Person* *NEW*
The one-act play, as a form of reading theater, is tied to a long tradition of literary salons in Germany and Austria. Since the 18th century, one-act plays have been regarded as a space for experimentation beyond the official theater business, and sometimes took place in unconventional locations. Today, the playful and performative approach to dramatic texts is often used as a method for learning German, promising progress in areas such as speaking, vocabulary, reading skills, and phonetics. This course aims to read short (sometimes well-known) dialogues in distributed roles, discuss the end of a story in the group, and/or rewrite the texts as desired. Disguises, masks, and the construction of stage sets are permitted, but not necessary. For students with a high intermediate level (CEFR B2 and above).
All materials will be provided during the course.
