German: Beginner Level 2 *In-Person*

The German language boasts about 120 million native speakers. It is the most widely spoken native language in the European Union. The German-speaking countries are ranked fifth in terms of annual publication of new books, with one tenth of all books (including e-books) in the world being published in German language. Count yourself among its learners in this series of engaging classes, emphasizing spoken production and interaction. All classes are taught by highly educated and experienced native speakers, representing a variety of cultures and accents. Beginner Level 2 is for students who have at least 10 hours of classroom time in German within the last year, can ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need in German, and can use simple phrases and sentences to describe where they live and the people they know. Following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference, students at this level will learn to identify common words concerning their immediate concrete surroundings, read very simple sentences, ask and answer simple questions on very familiar topics, and write a short, simple note. Claire Sehringer

Claire Sehringer is a bilingual American who has lived, studied and worked in both the U.S. and Germany. Her career has been in Marketing, but she has always enjoyed teaching both German and English to people from many different backgrounds. She particularly likes to share the language learning tips she acquired while learning German as a second language. Her focus in the classroom is on helping students make progress while also having fun and finding ways to use their new language outside the classroom. Claire holds a BA in International Public Relations from the University of Connecticut and a Master of International Management from Schiller International University in Heidelberg, Germany. She is also certified as a teacher of English as a foreign language.
