Intermediate Woodworking Open Shop *NEW*

In this intermediate-level open woodshop, instructor Isaac Gewirth will guide students through the design and construction of small, self-directed projects. This course is ideal for those with basic woodworking experience who are ready to develop their own design language and take on a project of their own design for the first time. To ensure projects can be completed within the course, work will be intentionally constrained in scale. The first session will include a review of shop equipment and the development of full-scale drawings. Students are encouraged to arrive with several ideas and sketches, and should expect to spend $20–70 on materials. Throughout the course, students will build skills in design, joinery, carving, surface treatment, and sharpening, while receiving guidance tailored to their individual projects. Emphasis will be placed on integrating hand tool work and visible signs of the human hand. With a lighthearted, collaborative atmosphere, this class offers space to experiment, share ideas, and make alongside others. Students must have prior experience with the safe operation of woodworking equipment. Instructor: Isaac Gewirth
