Alfred Hitchcock, one of cinema's first auteurs, has long been identified with the creative use of suspense and his celebration of glamorous blondes. But for many who admire his contribution to film history, his achievement is far richer and more complex. He was a master - perhaps the first - of cinematic montage, which has become an essential part of modern film language. Even more intriguing is his treatment of what we today call sexual politics, about which his films are peculiarly revealing. In this course, we'll watch and unpack six of his films, from his earliest British silent films to his greatest Hollywood hit, "Vertigo", often called the greatest film ever made.
