The Italian Language - A Journey through History: The "Questione della lingua" *In-Person* *NEW*
How did Italian become the language we speak today? These three course modules explore the fascinating story of Italian from its Latin origins to modern usage, through literature, history, and cultural debates. We will discover how a "national language" was created, why Italy has so many dialects, and how Italian continues to evolve today. No background in linguistics is required. Please note the language requirements for each module.
Module 2: The "Questione della lingua"
Who decides what "good Italian" is? This module explores the famous debate that shaped modern Italian and the writers who influenced it, from Dante to Manzoni. This class will be mainly conducted in English.
