The Art of Rivalry *In-Person* *NEW*
In this course, we will examine how rivalry can be the heart of some of the most famous friendships in the art world. Based on Sebastian Smee's critically acclaimed book with the same title, this course examines how intense relationships between some of the world's greatest artists spurred them to reach new heights of creativity and innovation. This course will focus on the pairings of Matisse and Picasso, Manet and Degas, Pollock and de Kooning, Freud and Bacon, Kapoor and the entire art world. Instructor: Samantha Joyce

Samantha Joyce
Samantha M Joyce currently works as a curatorial assistant for the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics bringing with her experience in curating exhibitions throughout the Boston area and online for the past 4 years. Prior to this, she spent a number of years working at the Institute for Contemporary Art as a lead gallery operator, spending time with visitors discussing art and contemporary culture. Samantha got her BA in History at the University of Massachusetts and got her MA in Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture from the University of Westminster in London.
